My Adventure ! My Story !

Myself and Robert thought about this subject few months back which was to launch a new WordPress hosting service at a very reasonable price, as the compute resources required for a personal blog are very low as compared to a proper business website. Many of our friends love adventure and they have innumerable stories to share for hours about their years old adventures. I am sure you must be fond of those night long discussions about Snakes, Ghosts, Adventures, Travelogues or any topic of common interests. We all love such stories when we meet our friends, but these days it has become extremely difficult for friends to meet up often and spend quality time with each other. This thought eventually led to this concept of encouraging all our customers who are our friends, to start with their personal blogs and let their stories be read and talked about.

We launched a new personal blog hosting service towards the end of last year but we could not market it properly, as neither me nor Robert had been out for any Adventure since the day eUKhost was established. We realised this and decided to go out for an Adventure together, which would help us with content for our promotions and at the same time also help us to improve our relationship, which until now was mostly focused on professional front. So here’s how it all happened  🙂

2 months back I received a newsletter from TripAdvisor, which had listed some 10 locations in the world and the subject was “10 places where you should visit at least once in your lifetime”. This subject was really intriguing for me and the first suggested place out of those 10 was to visit the Fairy Pools, at the Isle of Skye in Scotland. I shared this with Robert and we both started searching for some pictures through Google to check out how exactly “The Isle of Skye” looked like. We both loved the pictures we saw and we started dreaming about visiting this place. Personally, I’ve had only 1 vacation in the last 10 years and that too lasted for only 2 days, so it was extremely difficult for me to manage my schedule and find some time if this trip was to materialize, but Robert simply made all the bookings and shared the itinerary with me. His original plan was to reach Isle of Skye at night and leave from there next morning :p which I insisted him to change and so we decided to stay in Scotland for an extra day.

As per the plan, we both reached Manchester Airport on 1st March in the afternoon and departed for Inverness. We reached Inverness at around 6:40pm and we hired a Car from AVIS which Robert was going to drive till Portree (Isle of Skye, Scotland). On our way to Portree, it started raining and after few minutes I experienced the first snow fall of my life. I didn’t want to miss this experience, so we stopped by wherever we could find a parking place. After a fairly long drive, we reached Hotel Cuillin at Portree at 10:30 pm and got a grand welcome over there. After settling in, we had few rounds of the Talisker Whiskey (made locally in the Isle of Skye) and had a Good night sleep in those comfortable rooms with a wonderful view outside ( see the picture below).

We started early next morning and had a sumptuous breakfast at Cuillin Hotel. This hotel is by far the most beautiful hotel I’ve visited and the service is by far better than most of the 5 Star hotels I’ve stayed at across 3 continents. After a heavy breakfast, we left for a drive around the Island with no proper plan, we stopped at few places and clicked pictures alongside the road with few local animals of Scotland.

We came back to the town and visited Information Center, which can be seen at every few miles in the Isle of Skye. We got the local map from them and they shared some suggestions which could make a proper tour of the Island possible within a day. So a wonderful journey began and our dream to visit “Fairy Pools” was soon going to come true. 🙂

We took the A87 Road towards the Cuillin mountain to visit Fairy Pools. We stopped along the way to capture some beautiful pictures and soon we reached the parking bay from where “Fairy Pools” was very close by.

We started walking in the snow, but all of a sudden it started raining, I thought I would be able to manage and walk through even if it rains for few minutes, but soon it turned into heavy snowfall and my body started freezing. I was not aware of what kind of clothes one should wear during snowfall which made it more tough for me to walk. As a result of heavy snowing, the snowballs soon started entering my Jacket and Wellies and I realized that my dream may not come true for now. It was a huge disappointment and I was about to request Robert to take a U turn. I started cursing myself that I was not able to manage at -1 degrees, while there are millions of others who trek at places like the Mount Everest at -20 and -30 degrees.  🙁

Robert was little ahead of me, so I decided to walk up to him, but something changed all of a sudden. My body started generating heat from within and all of a sudden I felt very comfortable in the midst of heavy snowfall. Though the snow continued to enter in my clothes and Wellies, I didn’t feel uncomfortable later. I felt so comfortable that I could pose for the next few pictures without my Gloves and the Woolen scarf.

We continued to walk for about 20 minutes towards the Fairy Pools and then we came across the first Pool.

We clicked some pictures at this pool, but the best sight was waiting for us next. The Snowfall stopped by the time we reached the 2nd pool and this sight was beyond my imagination. All of a sudden we had bright sunshine and the experience was as if we were in Heaven.

We clicked few pictures and visited the other pools and also clicked some beautiful pictures of the Waterfalls. Weather continued to change every 5 minutes and it appeared as if God was having fun at the Fairy Pools in The Isle of Skye.

As we started feeling hungry, we decided to leave the Fairy Pools behind and drove to “Talisker Distillery”, which is just 8 miles from the Fairy Pools. Since Robert was at the wheel, only I could test a very small quantity of whisky at the distillery and soon after, we left from there towards our next destination.  As per the drive plan suggested by the Information Center, we then reached a small Restaurant called “Steinn Inn” by 1 pm, which is on Extreme North-West of the Island. We had a wonderful Lunch over there and even this time only I could enjoy the beautiful Talisker Whiskey, which has a smoky taste and you would start loving it more and more every time you drink it. We clicked few beautiful pictures outside “Steinn Inn” and left for our next destination which was towards extreme North East of the Island.

We clicked few beautiful pictures at the highest point of the Island and reached at the Lealt Falls. We wanted to click some beautiful pictures of the huge waterfall, but it was too windy and we could not handle the camera properly to take the kind of pictures we wanted. Due to the heavy pressure of wind, I started feeling too cold all of a sudden, so we took some pictures while closer to the ground and ran towards the car which was parked by the road side.

We reached our Hotel Early in the evening and got a bottle of Talisker with us. As it was snowing outside, I simply kept my Glass outside the window and I had nice decoration of Ice in my Glass 🙂 our stay at Hotel Cuillin was as amazing as our 1 day vacation.

As I fast on Tuesdays, we left early morning from Cuillin Hotel towards Inverness Airport. We drove for about 30 miles and crossed the “Isle of Lochalsh” region. We clicked few pictures at the junction of “Isle of Skye” & “Isle of Lochalsh”. After leaving from the “Isle of Lochalsh”, we realized the beauty of Wild Scotland we had missed on the previous night. It continued to snow all the way and at some places we could we more than 2 feet deep snow. In the wilderness of the driveway, we could also see hundreds of Wild Deer as the weather continued to change after every 5 minutes. At some places, we had bright sunshine without any clouds above us and it started to snow. Being an Engineer and Science lover, I was not able to figure out how it could snow without a Cloud above your head.
